APACHE FC KICK SEASON OFF WITH UNITED WIN

August 31, 2011: The Warriors kicked off their second season in the LA Municipal 30+ League with a well-fought win over cross-town rivals Hollywood United Tuesday night at Griffith Park.

Sporting four new additions to the side -- striker Pep Lupo and defenders Mike Gemballa, Alvaro Ramirez and Cruz Roque -- Apache FC got off to a quick start with attacking midfielder Richie Million hammering home a Nick Midulla pass at the nine-minute mark. Six minutes later, Lupo doubled that tally slotting in the pass through off a Midulla free kick outside the box. United countered on 20 minutes after some miscommunication in the Warriors box ... but winger Ivan Miller quickly restored the two-goal lead five minutes later, knocking a bouncing shot past the HU keeper.

The second half saw the two teams trade off single goals with Lupo completing his brace at 65 minutes on a breakaway, looped forward by Midulla, and United striking with about 15 minutes left in the game. But cool heads and some nice one-touch passing allowed Apache to maintain control of the match, which at times got more than a little chippy.

Captain Alex Martinez and Million were both yellow-carded on two separate incidents, while a United striker was red-carded for his questionable tackles as the game wound to a close. Apache keeper JC Salinaszelaya accorded himself admirably throughout the game, allowing few chances off any direct shots on goal.

Next week the Warriors will tackle a tough Martin Fierro side, also at Griffith Park with an 8:50 PM start.

Game is at Griffith Park with a 7 PM start against Hollywood United.

1) Please try to be there by 6:30 PM to warm-up, sign-in and register.

2) Those new to the team, there is slide tackling allowed, but this season the refs are going to be giving out even more cards for unfair play, so choose your tackles wisely and keep shut when there are any questionable calls (because THERE WILL BE .... no doubts)

3) remember no drinks or food on field ... just water ... and if you need to go to the washroom use the facilities ... last year players were booted out of the match for urinating on the side of the field (not us) ... this can cost teams games as incidents result in automatic red cards and fines to the team

4) anyone who has not paid dues please bring them to the game as either a check made out to William Alarcon for $102.50 or in cash ...

5) for our four new players, I am having new jerseys done up, but not sure if they will be ready by Tuesday. We have enough, but your official numbers will be assigned once the new jerseys are in. As to shorts and socks, I will have new team shorts and socks for you. Cost is $25 per player ... please bring these fees to the game as well in cash.

6) we are the home team for this game, SO WE WILL BE WEARING OUR WHITES :)

Let's take this game to Hollywood United and start the season off with a win.

Cheers

Rahoul

APACHE FC PLACED IN "A" DIVISION WITH TOP SEEDS

August 24, 2011: The Warriors have been bumped up to the Tuesday "A" Division for the Summer/ Fall 2011 LA Municipal Soccer League 30+ season, paired with the likes of Hollywood United, Los Andes, Martin Fierro, FC Armenia Deportivo and GOALFELLAS. All of these squads placed in the top three of their divisions last season, with FC Armenia Deportivo capturing the playoffs cup title. The complete season schedule is now available here.

"B" Division includes: Silverlagos, Silverlake FC, Dinamo Lokamotiv, Altered Glass FC, UFA Kronos and Beercelona.

The top two squads from each division will advance to the playoff round following a regular season of 10 matches.

Apache FC again kick off their season as the home side against Hollywood United, Tuesday, August 30 at Griffith Park with a 7 PM start. The following week they will tackle a tough Martin Fierro side, also at Griffith Park with a 9 PM start.

Coached by Billy Alarcon and Rahoul Ghose, the Warriors will see at least 15 returning players, and several new additions in midfield and defense, shored up -- at least in the early season -- by the goal keeping talents of JC Salinaszelaya. Work commitments have unfortunately kept keeper Carlos Guerrero out of the picture for the coming season.

Returning players include: Nick Midulla, Richard Taylor, Mike Lewis, Richie Million, Ivan Miller, Matthew McCallum, Esteban Zelaya, Juan Salinaszelaya, Rahoul Ghose, Alex Martinez, Bryan Moore, Sammy Xaylitdet, Doug Koontz, Custis Smith and Ger McManus. Joining the lineup so far are defender/midfielders Michael Gemballa, Alvaro Ramirez, Cruz Roque and Pep Lupo. The remaining three spots are yet to be confirmed ... one of which is being held for a full-time keeper. Potential additions are Sergio Delgadillo, Rob Greene and Guillermo Herrera.

Look for this season to be highly competitive and physical as three of the squads joining Div. A had the highest instance of yellow and red cards last season.

Here's to a successful second season.
