Warriors end second season looking to regroup

Apache FC ended its second LA Municipal League +30 season Tuesday at John Ferraro still plagued by players dropouts, no-shows and injuries.  A nine-man squad, reduced to eight after another player injury, gave a spirited effort against Los Andes and held them to a 3-0 result thanks to a core group which never lost hope.

Ivan Miller was stellar between the posts, keeping the game respectable,  while Nick Midulla and Richard Taylor kept pushing for a goal, even after the Warriors were down 2-0 at the half. Others who battled to the end included Mike Gemballa, Bryan Moore, Cruz Roque, Rahoul Ghose, Mike Lewis and Esteban Zelaya, who was forced off midway through the first half with a minor calf tear.

Pep Lupo, who has been out with an injury for several games also cheered on from the sidelines together with Warriors mainstay Tara Tortorello.

The latter half of the season, which saw many such undermanned games, will force team organizers to go on a recruiting journey in the coming  weeks, which will hopefully see some more consistency in the Warriors lineup. Players who consistently made it out for games will be invited back.

The squad, who will be playing some friendlies later this month to keep returning members fit and to try out several new prospects, will hopefully be one of the 10 squads playing in the +30 LA Muni League double knock-out tourney this January. First-come sign up starts Dec. 7.
