A Thank-You Letter to Blake's Family

Note: this was sent to the family with a Blake's 6 jersey on June 22

Dear Whalen and Allison, Jackson, Lauren and Ansley

The staff and players of Apache FC just wanted to write to thank you for the honor of playing in your son/brother Blake’s name during this year’s Kick for a Cure Tournament in San Diego, June 18 and 19.

While the squad did not advance to the playoffs in the men’s competitive division, we played on the field during the three-game opening round with a passion, honor and spirit befitting the memory of Blake.

All players wore a special Apache FC purple jersey throughout the tourney, which included a newly designed logo for Blake.  The team would like to present you with the #6 jersey (for Blake’s 6) to make you and your family honorary members of Blake’s 6 and Apache FC.

As a club formed around a passion for soccer and life, Apache FC always looks for ways to give back to the community and this honor gave us the opportunity to make a difference off the field in the real world.  Participating in Duchenne San Diego's Kick for a Cure 6 v 6 Tournament annually has always been close to coach Billy Alarcon’s heart … supporting an incredible and worthwhile cause – Children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – by simply participating in a game we all love. Allowing us to play in Blake’s name elevated those efforts in a manner special to all of our hearts.

Blake was loved by all and the memory of his sweet and gentle spirit will never fade from the hearts of those who know and love him. While we personally did not get to meet him, all of us feel touched by his memory.  Thank you for that.
